FORMATION - Security driver
DESCRIPTION
- Understand the threats (criminology, terrorism, weapons, ammunition, etc.)
- Consider and interpret the initial mission data: the VIP intelligence sheet and the mission schedule
- Develop the collective and individual loading plan for the equipment required for the mission
- Know and apply the checklist of measures required for security convoy movements
- Master basic mapping, be able to orient yourself, and extract or program a GPS coordinate to reach a point (location and recovery procedures)
- Master the use of security routes and objective files
- Demonstrate proficiency in communication systems (radios, telephony, communication apps) within an operational setup, and be able to deliver an immediate situation report in an emergency
- Master professional steering control, the operational driving position, and individual protection guidelines in the event of an impact (for both driver and passengers)
- Master and apply convoy driving rules on public roads (advance vehicle, lead vehicle S1, principal/VIP vehicle, follow vehicle S2, and security motorcycle)
- Be able to determine drop-off and pick-up points on a target location (pre-reconnoitered or improvised)
- Master vehicle security screening prior to use (security search to rule out the presence of IEDs)
- Know how to use and be technically proficient with equipment specific to security driving and close protection (personal equipment, bulletproof vests, search tools, radios, vehicle-applied ballistics, vehicle armoring, security seals, Kevlar bulletproof briefcase, etc.)
- Master the basic rules of a pedestrian close-protection formation in order to integrate effectively with pedestrian close-protection agents
Knowledge regarding
- Emergency braking and emergency braking with evasive maneuvers (angle-opening and anticipation methods), with and without ABS
- Defensive driving techniques (anti-collision, anti-rear observation), alone or in convoy
- Procedures for vehicle extraction or transfer in dangerous situations (roadblocks, crowds, assault, vehicle under fire and/or disabled vehicle), including lateral screens, front screen, rear screen, VIP transfers between vehicles, and management of breakdowns and/or accidents
- Driving lines: sports, semi-sports, and ideal
- Emergency reverse extraction in a confined space
- Loss of vehicle traction (understeer and oversteer), U-turns and J-turns
- Offensive driving (pushing and controlled ramming)
